The World of Ice & Fire - Review

The World of Ice & Fire was an amazing journey from beginning to end. The illustrations throughout the book were just gorgeous and I've never seen a better collection of art in a book. It's like George R.R. Martin was Nick Fury & gathered the Avengers of Sci-Fi/Fantasy illustrators to work on this book. Even the packaging & design of this book was awesome. The cover, the material the book was made out of, and the pages had the design of a historical tome which gave some real authenticity and specialty to this book. It made me feel like I was a scholar, or more fitting, a Maester of the Citadel just doing some leisurely reading. It's hard to go into details about the histories and events itself because it will not only spoil this book, but also spoil stuff in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series for those who haven't read it yet, so I have stayed away from that & this will be more like a breakdown of the cont...

A Song of Ice & Fire - Series Review

George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice & Fire Series is the best book series I’ve read in my life. It has layered and complex characters, phenomenal world-building, beautiful prose, and an epic and very intricate story. There are so many great hidden details, easter eggs, sophisticated plot threads, and deep history that it's very clear how much effort and planning has been put into this series and it’s no wonder that it’s taken so long for George R.R. Martin to write these books. I can’t wait to re-read this series a couple more times and I know for sure I’ll pick up a ton of new details that I’ve missed on my first read. Obviously, the series isn’t finished yet but it doesn’t look like the series is going to be finished anytime soon so until The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring gets published (which might never happen), this is going to substitute as my series review. A Clash of Kings - Review

A Clash of Kings (Book 2) expands upon Book 1 (A Game of Thrones ) and kicks the plot into high gear since a bulk of the setup and introductions have already been covered in the 1st book. We get a couple of new POV characters, we visit new places and deal with intriguing politics while concluding with an epic battle. I'm changing up the review format a little bit from Book 1. I'm going to break down this review into 4 brief sections instead of 6. I got rid of the prose section because they're mostly helpful for Book 1's of a series and the rest of a book series usually has the same prose so I don't have much to say now for that section. Winter's Heart - Review

Winter’s Heart (Book 9) is a nice improvement from the previous book, The Path of Daggers . The storylines are more interesting, the pacing is better, and there’s some unexpected twists and big moments that have a major impact on the series going forward. A good amount of lingering questions from previous books are also answered, and it ties up some loose plot threads regarding the Seanchan storylines of previous books as well. Dune - Review

Dune is a phenomenal book filled with drama, political intrigue, suspense, and shocking moments, but it also makes the reader think heavily on the several key themes presented throughout the book such as power, revenge, religion, ecology, culture and so much more. There’s so much packed into this 600 page book such as the rich world, profound ideas, relatable characters, and a gripping story underneath it all. This is my first foray into Sci-Fi/Sci-Fantasy and reading these futuristic elements such as the cool technology, space travel, and the idea of planetary fiefs was a great experience. It was overwhelming at times and I had a lot of questions throughout the book, but it all wraps up very nicely at the end with a great conclusion.
